Titicaca Lake is located at the northern end of the Altiplano, high in the Andes, on the border of Bolivia and Peru.
By its volume of water and elevation, it is considered the largest and highest lake in South America with a surface area of 58,000 km² / 222,400 sq mi. and an elevation of 3,812 m / 12,507 ft. above sea level. The unending Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, spans over 410582 km² / 4085 sq mi. Driving through it is one of the most fascinating experiences you can have in South America. You will go through red mountains, unusual rock formations, hot springs, geysers, red and green lagoons, volcanoes and giant cacti.
You will also enjoy the local fauna found along the way towards the Salar: vicunas, flamingos and many species of shorebirds are common in the area.
